Can you really insure a burning building?

A long time ago a friend of mine told me you could insure a burning building if you could collect enough premium. Extreme as this statement may be, there is a modicum of truth in it. In this industry we are limited only by our imagination in terms of creating new products. As an insurance marketing firm we often hear of new and exciting insurance ideas. We also hear some pretty strange ideas. For example there are insurance policies available from Lloyd’s of London for vampire bites, werewolf attacks, and alien abduction. Over 40,000 policies have been sold to insure against alien abduction. You may file a claim and collect up to 1-million-pounds if you can pass a lie detector test, and have video or a third-party witness. As strange as that sounds, it’s true and arguably very creative. I recently read an article in Time that a company in Kernersville, NC came up with a new casualty product designed to hedge marriage. That’s right you can now purchase marriage insurance. Premiums run at about $16.00 for every $1,250.00 in coverage and Wedlock is selling policies for as much as $1,000.00 per month.
